A rebuy tournament lets you buy more chips during the early blind levels. In a regular tournament, when you lose all your chips you’re eliminated. But in a rebuy event, you can buy back in and keep playing.
Here’s how rebuy tournaments work:
- There is a rebuy period during the early stages, usually about the first hour of the event. After this period ends, no more rebuys are allowed.
- You can always see the length of the rebuy period under the 'Structure' tab in the tournament lobby.
- The rebuy period timer pauses whenever play stops, during the regular 5-minute breaks or any temporary pause in action. This means the rebuy period doesn’t end exactly 60 minutes after the tournament starts. Instead, it ends after 60 minutes of actual gameplay.
- The number of rebuys may be fixed or unlimited. It depends on the tournament rules.
- To rebuy, you can only use the real money or T-Money (T$) available in your account.
- Tickets cannot be used for rebuys. They can only be used as the initial buy-in for a tournament.
If you run out of chips, you’ll automatically be offered a rebuy when you're eligible. If not, you’ll see a message explaining why. You can also enable 'Auto Rebuy' so you instantly rebuy when you bust.
- Desktop: Click 'Auto Rebuy' above the chat window.
- Mobile: Use the re-buy checkbox or tap 'Menu' → 'Add More Chips'.
But keep in mind that if you're sitting out, the 'Auto Rebuy' will be disabled, even if you enabled it before. If you sit out and forget to uncheck the boxes, you may end up making an unwanted rebuy.
You can also rebuy anytime your stack is at or below your starting amount, as long as you’re not in a hand. For example, if you start with 1,500 chips, you can rebuy whenever you have 1,500 or less. A 'Rebuy' button will appear at the table when you’re eligible.
Rebuys usually cost the same as the original buy-in and award the same number of chips. A small fee may apply. The prize pool is finalized only after the rebuy period ends, since every rebuy increases it.
Add-ons in rebuy tournaments
During a rebuy tournament, you have the option to take an add-on at the end of the rebuy period. An add-on gives you one additional rebuy. It’s generally available no matter how many chips you have.
Add-ons are not automatically offered, so take action if you want one.
You can choose from one of these methods:
- When the break begins and you see the 'Players are now on break' message, press the chip tray on the table and select 'Add More Chips'. If your table theme doesn’t show the dealer tray, select 'Options' at the top of the table instead. On the Mercury theme, select 'Table' to open the same menu.
- Select the 'Auto Add-On' and the add-on will apply automatically once the break starts and all hands finish.
- Mobile: Tap the 'Menu' button at the top of the table and select 'Add More Chips'.
- Desktop: Settings → Buy-In / Rebuy → Auto Rebuy (Tournaments). Remember to press 'Apply Changes' to save your selection.
